The "21st Century Coffee House" was a project with a real site. The main purpose was to create a coffee house on Albert Road in Portsmouth, with a fully functional and poetic interior that follows all appropriate regulations.
The interior design of the coffee house needed to, however, take inspiration from a list of 50+ artists, artworks, movies and TV shows
From this list I chose to take my inspiration from ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’ a movie written and directed by Wes Anderson. I chose this concept because of the significant link between how Anderson directs his movies, and how The Kings Theatre (a historic theatre that sandwiches the site between its two entrances) is designed.
From the point of analysing the concept and the site, I went through many different design processes, all of which are in a sketchbook which can be seen on request, in order to grasp a final poetic design which represents the concept, site, its rich history, and the target market of customers.
Project Length: 13 weeks.
Project Grade: 72% (1st)
